Bullying/Harassment/Intimidation District Policy
The Brewster School Board and USD 314 schools K-12 are committed to
providing a safe, positive, productive learning and working environment that is
free from bullying for all. Bullying, harassment, or intimidation by students, staff
or third parties is strictly prohibited and shall not be tolerated in the district.
Students whose behavior is found to be in violation of this policy will be subject to
discipline, up to and including expulsion. Third parties whose behavior is found
to be in violation of this policy shall be subject to appropriate sanctions as
determined and imposed by the superintendent or board. Individuals may also
be referred to law enforcement officials. Details of the discipline policy for the
district may be found in the guidelines of the Student Handbook.
Bullying means an intentional written, verbal, or physical act that:

+ Verbal - Taunting, jeers, name calling intimidation, threats and disrespect.
+ Cyber - Broadcasting negative information with chat rooms, email, web
blogs, texting, profiles and other information.
+ Sexual - Communication of a sexual nature, unnecessary and unwanted
touching that is not consensual, disrespect.
+ Physical - Touching, pinching, shoving, pushing, hitting, fighting, or disrespect.
+ Social - Social isolation, blaming others, gestures, or disrespect. Appropriate remedial actions for a student who commits one or more acts of bullying may range from positive behavioral interventions up to and including
suspension or expulsion. Many behaviors that do not rise to the level of bullying
may still be prohibited by other district policies or rules.
The district of Brewster USD 314 expects students, parents, staff and visitors that
witness or experience bullying to immediately report the incidents to the principal
or designee. Staff is expected to immediately intervene when they see a bullying
incident occur. This policy applies to students on school grounds or a school
activity.
